Yesterday, the BC Provincial Nomination Program (BC PNP) office abruptly announced a temporary “pause” to some of its most popular categories until July 2015. We are told that this 90 period will be used to redesign the application process and manage the existing file inventory.

The BC PNP has been a flexible immigration solution for those candidates who don’t fit the standard federal immigration molds. As a progressive and proactive supporter of the BC economy, it has been a much needed option for workers and business owners in the province.

Since its inception, BC PNP has been a part of many success stories in the hi-tech, tourism and many other sectors.  I’m not sure how this will play out as immigration programs have become increasingly difficult to qualify for.  With the Federal Skilled Worker Express Entry (EE) system being so stringent, those who are hoping for a little help from BC may have to wait a little longer.

I hope this time will give the province a chance to create something even better.
